Leave rural Buckingham rural
To the editor:
The voters in Buckingham whom are apposing the addition of 1,000 additional housing units proposed by developer Green Point have property rights, too. They wish to keep Buckingham rural for the abundant wildlife and birds that live there. For the peace and quiet way of pastoral living they value and love.
However, three Lee County Commissioners voted for it with at least one having received campaign money from Green Point. It seems that they are not loyal to the majority of voters of this county who are tired of urban sprawl. I even wrote to the three commissioners who voted for it and they never had time to respond to my email .One commissioner even appointed someone new to the Local Planning Agency so he might get a favorable vote on this issue.
Why couldn’t these commissioners swap land and protect rural Buckingham? Please withdraw all of your development in Buckingham, Green Point developers .
As for property rights, the deer, hogs, wild turkey, birds, and most of all, the Florida panthers and water sensitive lands need property rights, too. The whole idea of property rights needs to be revisited and revised so the voters and wildlife have a say as to preservation and protection of rural and wild lands.
All to often the building industry destroys these rights. A few years back an executive for the Lee County housing industry even said he wanted the Florida panther to become extinct.
Please contact your commissioners and tell them to vote no for this increased density in Buckingham and ask them to stop the development in its entirety.The voters have property rights , too.
