Pollyanna gun control
To the editor:
Someone should check the contents of the coffee machine in the editorial department at Lee County’s daily newspaper. Tuesday’s editorial is straight from dreamland where reality has been banished because of the lack of a response that could possibly work. But, whatever the coffee contains, it removes from the drinker any semblance of common sense, and replaces it with dreamlike euphoria.
That people expect to be safe at such an event as Zombicon is no longer on the plate of reason because today, no one is safe, everywhere. The weapon of choice is blamed when in actuality it is the goal of the attacker to strike where and when he/she pleases.
It is human behavior and not the fault of the weapon. Each attack has at its core another equation that resulted in violence, and violence is a part of our DNA.
We cannot put the onus upon the shoulders of the police. Life is a contact sport. To blame the weapon is a sorry excuse for not having something of value to add to the equation. Our reputation may have been tainted by the events of this Zombicon but we see daily similar events occurring on a worldwide scale.
People have to be responsible for their own safety. I know, in this day and age personal responsibility is a rare commodity. There are some things that we just cannot prevent. We are limited by ability and law. The media should begin to realize this but I am afraid that that task is far beyond them.
