G.O.P. risking Goldwater to get to Reagan
To the editor:
The year 2016 is shaping up to be great theater for presidential politics. The drama, high stakes, and intrigue is going to be outstanding. It appears at this time that the base of the Republican Party, the Constitutionalists, and the Tea Party leaners within the Republican Party are going to go for broke in the presidential sweepstakes. A “b___ to the wall” sort of gambit. The conservative base of the G.O.P. is not going to tolerate the sort of pale pastels as they select their presidential ticket. The “Unwashed Masses” of the Party of Lincoln, is seemingly going for an all-out presidential conservative ticket of both the president and vice-president. Without apology to the liberal media nor the donor class establishment Republicans, they are swinging for the fence.
The conservative base appears to be looking past the dangers of Goldwater-64 and clinging to a Reagan-80. Two items to clear up quickly though in the Goldwater-64 humiliation is that many of Johnson’s votes were sympathy votes for the martyred John Kennedy. And just four years after the conservative embarrassment of “64,” the law-and-order conservative Nixon defeated Humphrey. Those two clarifications notwithstanding, it is a huge risk for the G.O.P. to go unapologetic strong conservative in 2016 with its presidential ticket. It will either be an embarrassing debacle and possibly the final throes of constitutional conservatism or it will be a huge landslide victory putting conservatism and common sense back in the White House. It will not be an up-to 3 a.m. nail biter of “76” with Carter-Ford.
It seems the grassroots of the party is going conservative, very conservative, with probably both their presidential and vice presidential nominees. A combination of a Trump, Cruz, Rubio, and or Carson ticket. If Carson is not on the ticket, he is sure to be on the short list for the U.S. Surgeon General position while Carly Fiorina could possibly be the Secretary of Commerce. A strong passionate conservative ticket would bring great enthusiasm, rally the base, and give the American people a clear choice of returning America to greatness or accepting the end of the American Empire. A Trump/Cruz ticket would be all the chips on the table; big, bold, and blustery… but maybe a bust.
The more Donald Trump speaks the higher his polls. When he calls illegal immigration… illegal, his polls go up. When he says we will build a wall protecting the American homeland and Mexico will pay for it, his polls skyrocket. And when he says we will have a pause on all Muslim immigration until when can vet out possible terrorism from sleeper cells so we will not have another San Bernardino, he leads his closest competitor by a 3:1 margin. Apparently, a large portion of the American people feel that vetting out terrorists, having border security, and refusing to be suicidally political correct is not racist but in fact common sense. It is now fact, that political correctness in our foreign policy, is killing American citizens on American soil. When leadership in D.C. tells us that “global warning” is the cause of global terrorism, leadership has lost the faith and trust of the American people. The American people know that the U.S. Constitution is not a suicide pact.
Hillary and Bernie Sanders don’t get it. CNN and MSNBC are confused. And the Republican donor class establishment from DC to NYC are perplexed. The American people are sick and tired of American leadership apologizing for America’s greatness the last 200 years. The common man would love for “America to be great again” for the sake of the children and grandchildren. The people understand that because of America, the good guys won WWI, WWII, and the Cold War. More people are freer today and have more liberty, because of America’s greatness over the last centuries. Not sinless, but the best. Where does freedom run to, if America is no longer the “shining city on a hill?”
The masses in America are scared and frightened because of the present foreign policy from the White House. Our friends don’t trust us and our enemies don’t fear us. A very dangerous combination. We don’t understand how a President of the USA can choose and trust Iran and the mullahs over a God-fearing Israel. Now, more than any other time since the Cuban Missile Crisis, the American people fear WWIII. This is not because of America’s strength, power, and vision. But because of weakness, vacillation, and a politically correct foreign policy in Washington D.C. Remember, Khrushchev and the Russian Bear tried to put nuclear weapons in Cuba, not because they viewed Kennedy as strong and powerful, but because they viewed JFK as weak and timid. When our enemies do not fear nor respect us, danger and violence are just around the corner.
The presidential election of 2016 will either be a dawning of a renewed day of America’s greatness, with a very conservative Republican ticket, or it will be a continuing of the slide of liberal secular socialism as the American Empire disappears. Probably the G.O.P. ticket will be the most conservative ticket since the 1952 Ike-Nixon ticket. Time will only tell; will the 2016 race be the pendulum swinging back to conservative, common sense, constitutional America; or will it further establish the liberal socialist agenda of the “new normal” of a once imperfect but noble empire.
