Voter urges support for Scott
To the editor:
As Lee County residents of District 79 vote over the next two weeks, there is one main issue that is motivating Republicans, Democrats, and Non-Party Affiliates alike from North Fort Myers to Buckingham to Lehigh to unite – the environment. Recently, a group of Republicans formed Republicans for John Scott (RFJS). We are putting party politics aside when it comes to the State House race here in our District.
I live in District 79. I am a business owner and resident of North Fort Myers. I established this grassroots organization in an effort to ensure we get strong leadership at the state level to help Southwest Floridians meaningfully address critical water and environmental issues that urgently need to be resolved. We can be reached at republicans.votejohnscott.com for information, volunteer opportunities, and donations. We have already knocked on thousands of doors and made thousands of phone calls to Republicans, Democrats, and Non-Party affiliated registered voters, but we could always use more help to send a voice to Tallahassee that is going to represent us here in District 79 and save our waterways.
Solving Florida’s water quality problems should not be a partisan issue. In the case of water quality and our environment, it’s everyone’s issue regardless of your political preference. We are Southwest Floridians first and Republicans second. We have the opportunity to reverse the damage that is presently destroying our beaches, fisheries and reputation as a great place to live, work and play.
Vote by mail and early voting are already underway and with election day on Nov. 8, Lee County residents will have the opportunity to elect Florida Native and 37 year Lee County resident John Scott, Candidate for Florida State Representative District 79. Democratic candidate John Scott makes a compelling point – one that seems lost on his opponent Matt Caldwell – the health of our environment is inextricably linked to the health of our economy. Tourism, not agriculture, is Florida’s biggest industry, valued at $70+ billion annually; water and other environmental pollution issues are already affecting jobs, property values, fishing, revenue, and many other facets of our local and statewide economy. In order to ensure it continues to thrive, Florida’s environment and natural resources must be conserved and protected.
“John Scott will provide District 79 and Lee County the effective and balanced leadership that is accountable to everyone and beholden to no one.” said Ray Judah, who served as Lee County Commissioner as a Republican for 24 years and co-founded Republicans for John Scott.
John Scott, a Florida native and passionate advocate for Florida’s environment, was born in Hialeah, FL and raised in a middle class household. He has resided in Lee County for more than 37 years. As a long time resident, he attended Orangewood and Allen Park Elementary schools, Fort Myers Middle School, Fort Myers Senior High School, and is also an alumni of Edison Community College. Scott’s full time career has been in Information Technology for more than 23 years. He currently resides in North Fort Myers with his wife Ruth and two rescue dogs. Scott’s parents are both longtime educators in the Lee County Public School system. And his great-grandfather was one of the founding members of IBEW Local 349 in Miami; as well as his grandfather and father were also IBEW Local 349 electricians.
John and his wife work on a wide range of environmental issues as passionate advocates for Florida’s environment. John served as the Group Chair of Sierra Club Calusa Group, on the board of directors of Caloosahatchee Riverwatch, cofounded the Clean Water Initiative of Florida and is a Climate Reality Leader. John was also instrumental in the the passage of fracking ban ordinances in both the city of Bonita Springs and the Villages of Estero and was directly responsible, working with the mayor of Cape Coral and city council, for passage of a fracking ban ordinance in the City of Cape Coral.
