Anti-Capitalism protesting

To the editor:

A brief review of history tells us that in the past, citizens of all countries have rejected slavery, serfdom, indenturism and various and sundry other graduations of social ranking systems. It appears as though it is an unending history of class struggles. Modern society also is dissatisfied and most likely never will be satisfied, under all or any systems. It looks like the nature of the beast. Utopia, AKA perfect bliss, is an impractical scheme for social improvement that exists only on our minds. There will always be those among us that are never satisfied with the status quo-today, tomorrow, or ever.

The recent G-20 Summit protestors demonstrated truly bad behavior and intolerance of those attending the G-20 conference. It is worth noting that our mayor of the Great City of New York was a demonstrator in presence in Hamburg, Germany, right along with all the other dissidents and malcontents. They were protesting the capitalistic system by rioting, destroying and burning property, and injuring more than 100 policemen in place to maintain peace, etc. Do you think for one minute those protesters are capable of solving a single problem? I do not. They make problems!

Modern welfare states include Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. In the USA we have a partial welfare state as a result of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Welfare. The G-20 Summit was held in the center of countries that are welfare states. Oh well.

In the USA, all of our welfare systems are constantly under attack in some form by a trained body of lawyers and lobbyists who exchange their services for extremely generous wages at the expense of the general public. This is an ongoing and endless process.

The welfare state is a concept of government in which the state plays a key role in the protection and promotion of the social and economic well-being of its citizens, even if it becomes necessary to increase taxes on corporations and the wealthy, to redistribute wealth. The majority of this wealth is a direct result of extra effort, ingenuity, and investment. The entire concept of wealth redistribution is definitely counterproductive. What is the incentive to work both harder and longer to achieve less wages for more investment and more effort? At age 83 I have NEVER worked for a boss that was on welfare or public assistance. Large sums of money are required to create businesses and jobs for the general public.

Ever since the early 1980s we have witnessed the final results of this type of mentality in the USA. Wages and taxes spiraled out of control until such time it became obvious we needed some form of corrective action. The simplest and most obvious solution was to move our factories to other countries such as Mexico, China, India, etc. where the conditions were reversed and profits once again became possible.

There is very little correlation between economic performance and social expenditures.

I smile at the thought of “Bringing American jobs back? and “Making America Great Again.” Any system that relies upon government management and government corrective action to solve current problems without totally eliminating our lobbyists, is simply a bad idea that will not work. I am certain this is true because we have a $20 trillion national debt that is growing at the rate of $1,000,000 every 84 seconds to prove it. What is really sad is the fact we have absolutely no plans to deal with this major deficit spending. No one in Washington DC is even talking about it. Both major political parties!
