Transportation: The Postal Service operates a transport and delivery fleet of more than 214,000 vehicles driving more than one billion miles each year. Each one-cent increase in the price of fuel costs the Postal Service $8 million.
Impact: The Postal Service is “at the center of a $900 billion mailing industry, which employs nine million people in such businesses as direct mail, paper manufacturers and printers,” reports The Washington Post.
