The annual program will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon. The public is invited and there is no charge for attending.
Contest rules for the essay contest are the following:
Essays are to be titled, “What Does the Winter Holiday Mean to Me Here in Southwest Florida.”
There is a 200-word limit for students ages 6-8 and a 500-word limit for students ages 9-12.
Handwritten entries are preferred.
Each entry must have the following information on the back side of the entry: child’s name, child’s age, phone number, teacher’s name, school name and phone number.
There is no charge for entering the contest.
Entries judged as finalists in each age category will be on display at the November 27 event and will be voted on by those attending the event. Winners will be announced and trophies will be awarded. Photos will be taken for submission to the media.
Entries must be received by Friday, November 19, and are to be mailed to: Customer Relations USPS, 79 Mid Cape Terr., Cape Coral, FL 33991.
The Saturday, Nov. 27 holiday event will include a special “Letters to Santa” writing station, messaging Santa on a SW Florida coconut to be mailed to the North Pole, family photos taken for holiday greeting cards, (adult e-mail address required), learning how to take used stamps off envelopes, getting a holiday face tattoo, guessing the candies in the jar, and learning how to use Click-N-Ship for sending packages.
Also, for $1, children can color a holiday card and write a message to someone special; the card will have the 44-cent postage affixed and will be mailed. The name and mailing address must be provided. Those who bring in a new, unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots program will receive a ticket for a prize drawing.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
