Athletes of the Week: 9/22/23

Andre Costa
Senior
Football
North Fort Myers Red Knights
The playmaking running back turned in a big performance in a tough defeat against Lemon Bay. Costa carried 18 times for 121 yards and three touchdowns, and is now averaging more than 150 all-purpose yards-per-game this year.
“Last week didn’t turn out how we wanted, and we’re all hungry for a win. Every time I step on the field I get an adrenaline rush, and I’m always ready to make explosive plays for my team. A lot of credit goes to our O-line, and our work as a team day in and day out. Little things like watching film have really helped me take a leap.”

Melissa Blaine
Senior
Swimming
Cape Coral Seahawks
The senior standout came home with two first-place finishes at the Tarpon Invitational, where the Seahawks were victorious. Blaine placed first in the 200-meter IM and the 500-meter freestyle, and was also part of a second-place 200-meter freestyle relay team.
“As this is my senior year, I am trying to take in and enjoy every moment. When I jump in the pool, I want to make sure that I race, but also have fun. I have been working really hard and focusing on my technique as we head closer to the State Series so that I can perform well for my team.”
