USF to hold football camp at North High
Many of the area’s top high school football players will converge on 5000 Orange Grove Blvd. on Thursday morning.
There, at North Fort Myers High School, the University of South Florida will hold its annual satellite camp for players entering ninth to 12th grade from 9 a.m. to noon.
At this camp, instructions/ fundamentals will be provided for all position groups by the University of South Florida coaching staff.
North head football coach Earnest Graham said he expects more than 200 kids (including virtually the entire North squad) to come to the event, as well as some college scouts who may be looking for players to recruit.
“Most high school kids really need to take the time to come out. USF, Jacksonville University, Bethune-Cookman, will be there and it’s a chance to perform in front of those schools,” Graham said. “Kids who are there should jump at the chance to go.”
USF has held camps in Southwest Florida the last two years, with South Fort Myers and Estero holding them before North got its turn this year.
The USF satellite camps are one-day camps held throughout the state; campers will participate in on-the-field practice sessions, agility work and position specific drills.
Graham said the camp also holds competitive drills, such as seven-on-sevens where passing schemes are worked on, which will give his players a chance to go against other schools.
“The kids get to learn some new things. The drills are done by Division I coaches. They’ll give those kids things that most high school kids don’t have access to,” Graham said.
Participants are to check in between 8 to 9 a.m. before the three-hour clinic.
The cost is $40 and includes a USF Football camp T-shirt. Campers are expected to bring tennis shoes, cleats, shorts and a shirt.
