Schools closed Thursday in advance of TS Nicole

In “an abundance of caution,” the School District of Lee County has cancelled most after-school activities today and will close schools on Thursday in advance of Tropical Storm Nicole.
With high winds expected, and current conditions in the wake of Hurricane Ian, the district has cancelled all after school activities except for high school activities/athletics and after-care care.
“High School after school activities/athletics will be allowed to continue today through 3:30 p.m. with the campus being cleared by 4:00 p.m.,” a letter sent to parents states. “Please note that after-school activity bus transportation will not be provided and students should take the regular bus home. All after-school care for today will continue as normal. However, families are encouraged to pick up their child early if possible.”
In addition, the District has made the decision to close all schools and District offices on Thursday. This includes all school activities, athletics, and programs.
A decision about school and district operations for Friday, Nov. 11, will be made by Thursday afternoon.
The District will continue to provide daily updates to staff and families.
Lee County officials are aware that many residents are living in damaged homes due to Hurricane Ian or may be staying in RVs or tents on their property. Two county recreation center shelters are currently open.
