North Fort Myers Civic Association to host Clash Charity Golf Scramble June 17

The North Fort Myers Civic Association will hold its second annual Clash Charity Golf Scramble Saturday, June 17, at the Magnolia Landing Country Club, with registration at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8.
The event was a huge money maker for the organization last year (when it was called the Clash of the Irons), with the hopes the event will continue its appeal, even if the weather gets a little muggy and rainy this time of year.
The cost is $85 per player and $340 per foursome in this best-ball scramble format. While the initial reception has been strong, the organization is always looking for more teams and sponsors to participate.
Bob Hill, who is running the event, said the tournament was a huge success despite being held in Cape Coral. He said the Magnolia Landing is working well with them.
“It’s the last tournament of the year they will have there, so they are getting a lot of members signing up. We have about a dozen teams right now and we would like at least 18,” Hill said.
As for sponsorship, the other half of making money in a fundraiser, the NFMCA has gotten one major sponsor in Ellsworth Heating & Cooling, but are still looking for hole sponsors and other minor sponsors.
A media sponsorship is $50, a hole sponsorship is $100, a club sponsorship is $250, which includes two signs and two players, a $500 sponsorship includes a sign and a foursome, and a civic sponsorship is two signs and a foursome.
There will be a 50/50 raffle for gift baskets and an Italian buffet and swag bag after the event.
There will also be contests such as closest to the pin, longest drive and perhaps even a prize for a hole-in-one, which will all be paid out in cash prizes still to be determined.
Golfers can also purchase mulligans and yardsticks that can greatly reduce the length of a testy putt. A cart with donuts and coffee will also ride around for golfers.
When Hill asked the golf pro if weather could be a factor, the answer was that it mostly rains in the afternoon that time of year. However, there is no rain date set because the club must start getting the grounds ready for next season.
Danny Ballard, who has returned after heart surgery, said they went to the community and asked what they would like to see in a golf tourney.
“We asked if people wanted a trophy or plaque or cash. Cash was the favorite. I would like to give the winning team $300, or $75 per man,” Ballard said. “Every prize will be cash.
This is the first major fundraiser of the year for the NFMCA, which has put out a lot of money early on. Hill said a pickleball tournament is planned for September at the North Fort Myers Recreation Center, and the return of the Wiffle Ball Bash is also planned for early next year.
