Greatness?
To the editor:
What is greatness? And what is it not?
In today’s convoluted world, sadly there’s a misinterpretation of just what greatness consists of. Some say it’s how far one can throw a ball, or how high he can jump, or even how fast she might run. Others insist that greatness refers to wealth, or position, or the ability to exercise authority over others.
And then there’s also the misguided gang who insist that lying, cheating, and hurting others is the road that leads to greatness. And, herein lies a hidden disease that has infected America and today stands responsible for an invisible pandemic that’s damaging the nation.
Greatness is not killing babies in a torturous and unfeeling way. It’s not the main-stream media mis-characterizing vital issues in order to suit their agendas. And, it’s certainly not ignoring good and twisting the truth.
America, if we are to once again be proud of our nation, must return to the “greatness” that made her special. Only by changing direction from insidious conduct to goodness, cooperation and fairness can we claim to be special once again. Only by not being obnoxious and challenging God can true greatness return to America.
To me, greatness is giving, and feeling, and sharing goodness and godliness, and making better those things that serve to improve the quality of life in our society. Only and until we use the Ten Commandments as our guide post will greatness be synonymous with America once again!
