Meal Train account set up to help former NFMCA president on his road to recovery
For much of his life, Danny Ballard has lived to serve the people of North Fort Myers, whether it was fighting fires or serving as president of the North Fort Myers Civic Association or advocating for its residents at County Commissioners meetings.
Now the community has a way to give back as he recovers from heart surgery.
The North Fort Myers Civic Association has set up an account for Ballard with Meal Train, which delivers meals to area homes from local restaurants.
Ballard was rushed to the hospital Easter weekend with symptoms of a heart attack. He eventually needed a quadruple bypass.
He’s now out of the hospital and on the way to recovery.
Laura Lewis, who set up an account for the Ballards, said mitigating the burden of food shopping and cook will help he and his wife Debby fully focus on Danny’s recovery.
The account started late last week with the hope more people will contribute this week and in the immediate future.
“Meal Train is for anyone in the community who would like to either bring a meal, purchase a meal or a Door Dash gift card so the family in need can order it and have it delivered,” said Christy-Lee Iwanow, vice president of the NFMCA.
So far, NFMCA president Toni Hill and fellow board member Allison Savage have made contributions, with Hull contributing a home-cooked meal.
“We’re trying to get everyone on board and get Danny and Debby back on their feet,” Iwanow said. “Mr. Ballard is very busy. He goes to all the commission meetings. He’s on a task force, he’s our fire commissioner. We hope that with all he’s going through, this will help him out.”
Contributions to the effort, including donations of Door Dash or restaurant gift cards, are welcome.
Ballard’s favorite restaurants include Steve’s Place, Heavenly Pizza, Mission BBQ, Smokin Pit BBQ, Jersey’s Sports Bar, Southern Subs and Three Fishermen.
To take part in Main Train, you must be invited by the organizer, recipient or a participant by receiving the unique web address that links to the specific Meal Train page. To protect privacy, Main Train pages are not searchable.
