North Fort Myers downs Ida Baker in regional softball

Thursday’s first round
North Fort Myers 18, Ida Baker 4 (5 innings): The Red Knights (24-2) racked up a 16-run bottom of the fourth inning to wipe out a 4-2 Bulldogs’ lead. Mia Lane tripled, scored twice and had four RBI, Desirae Devine two hits, three runs and two RBI, and Katie Williams and Bella Micelli each added two runs and two RBI. Makayla Nieves had two hits and two RBI for Ida Baker (17-7), and Julie Nieves also drove in a Bulldogs run. North is home next Tuesday to take on Fort Myers in the region semifinals. The Red Knights defeated Fort Myers 11-1 for the District 5A-11 title on May 4.
Fort Myers 3, Mariner 2: Calleigh Buzard’s RBI double in the top of the seventh gave the Tritons (16-12) a chance to send the game into extra innings, but Mariner was unable to get her home. Fort Myers (15-13) scored twice in the first, and led 3-1 at the end of the fifth inning. Katie Campbell’s solo home run in the third accounted for the other Tritons score. Crimson Lawrence had seven strikeouts.

TRACK AND FIELD
It took a week, but the full list of qualifiers has been released by the FHSAA for next Friday’s state Class 3A track and field championships in Jacksonville.
The release of at-large berths was held up while the FHSAA looked into an altercation between two boys teams in the Region 3A-4 meet.
All boys athletes from Rockledge and Northwest Miami were initially disqualified, but that decision was reversed.
Here are the are Class 3A qualifiers for state track and field, as well as the previously released Class 2A competitors:
