LeeTran announces fare discount pilot program for veterans
LeeTran has launched a new pilot program for veterans, offering eligible veterans half-price fares using a designated veterans discount card as a way to recognize and thank those who have served our country. The new fare discount makes public transportation more affordable for veterans while honoring their service and sacrifice.
The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Nov. 3 to approve the pilot program, establishing the discount.
Veterans who want to use the discount regularly can obtain a Veterans Discount TropiCard by visiting either the LeeTran Headquarters, 3401 Metro Parkway, Fort Myers, or the Rosa Parks Transportation Station, 2250 Widman Way, Fort Myers.
Applicants need to present one of the following required forms of identification to receive their discount identification card:
• Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC)
• Veterans Identification Card (VIC)
• Driver License with a veteran designation
No application or additional paperwork is required, and LeeTran will not collect or retain copies of veterans’ documentation. A photo will be taken to issue the Veterans Discount TropiCard, which can then be used immediately.
“The Veterans Discount Program reflects LeeTran’s ongoing commitment to providing affordable, accessible transportation options while supporting the residents and communities it serves,” county officials said in a release. “LeeTran will evaluate the Veterans Discount Program after its first 180 days to assess participation, public interest and community feedback. This review will help guide the pilot program’s structure and any future modifications that may be appropriate.”
