American Legion District 13, which serves veterans and their families across Southwest Florida, covering Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties, is collecting teddy bears for the Christmas in July Teddy Bear Run to benefit the children at Golisano Children’s Hospital.

The run will be held Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m., starting at Post 38 on Jackson Street in Fort Myers.

According to Laurene Allen-Flower, District 13 commander, approximately 100 Legion Riders do a Christmas run every year and this year the group has distributed over 4,000 teddy bears that the hospital gives to every child who walks through its doors.

“They are already out of teddy bears,” Allen-Flower said, prompting the plans for the Christmas in July run.

Collection boxes for donated teddy bears are located at all of the American Legion Posts in the district and also at Dino Scoops Ice Cream at Gator Mike’s Family Fun Park, which is at 35 N.E. Pine Island Road in Cape Coral.
