Lee County Domestic Animal Services joins NBCUniversal Local’s 2026 Clear the Shelters campaignLee County Domestic Animal Services will once again participate in NBCUniversal Local’s Clear the Shelters, the nationwide pet-adoption campaign that helps homeless pets find loving homes.
From Aug. 1-31, LCDAS will join more than 1,600 animal shelters and rescue organizations in promoting pet adoption and raising awareness about the thousands of animals waiting for families.
To celebrate the month-long campaign, adoption fees will be reduced throughout August to $40 for dogs and $20 for cats with an approved application. In addition, all adoption fees will be waived Saturday, Aug. 15, during Lee County’s Clear the Shelters adoption event, giving even more families the opportunity to welcome a new pet into their home.
Since its launch in 2015, Clear the Shelters has helped more than 1.3 million pets find loving homes and has generated more than $5.6 million in donations to participating shelters and rescues nationwide.
“Clear the Shelters is one of our favorite events of the year because it shines a spotlight on the incredible pets waiting for homes,” said Pablo Adorno, director of Lee County Domestic Animal Services. “Every adoption changes a pet’s life while creating space for another animal in need. We encourage the community to visit the shelter this August — you may just meet your new best friend.”
Lee County Domestic Animal Services has a variety of adoptable pets, including playful puppies and kittens, active adult dogs, affectionate cats and loving senior companions. Every adopted pet is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to begin their next chapter with a new family.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services serves as the county’s only stray intake facility, providing care, shelter and second chances for thousands of animals each year. With community support, more pets can find their way to loving homes.
Adoptions take place at the shelter, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers. Adoption hours are 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Adoption applications can be submitted electronically at leegov.com/animalservices/adopt. They can also be printed and faxed or brought to the shelter. Or they can be completed in person.
