Wealth vs health?
To the editor:
As I listen to the diatribes on both sides if the health care issue I wonder to myself; have we as a people degenerated to a point where we honor wealth above all else? There is no doubt that American families are struggling with the cost of health care. The reason health care costs continue to go through the roof is simple and undisputable; the medical profession is no longer profession of healing, but a business concerned with maximum profit where a ” patient ” is no more to them than a billable unit.
In the current economic conditions more and more businesses are closing their doors; however, the for profit health care industry continues to rake in obscene profits on the backs of people who were unfortunate enough to become sick, injured or elderly. Still you have the money worshipers and shareholders who will scream the health care industry should be market driven. I don’t believe many would agree with the concept that their health should be secondary to profit, or that profit motive should be the driving force in the medical profession
