What I like about Joe Biden and why I will vote for him

To the editor:

I have repeatedly seen Joe Biden exhibit humility, modesty and a sincere pride in his humble beginnings. I can relate to that and the fact that neither of us have had an Ivy League education.

As a lifelong public servant, he has demonstrated the integrity to be trusted to do the right thing and put the American people’s interests above his own. He doesn’t have to do this and is not on an ego trip! He humbly admits his mistakes and makes friends with previous adversaries. He does not hold grudges. Joe has a long history of established political savvy and cooperating with Republicans to find common ground. I have no doubt as to the veracity of his desire to reunite us as a country. He surrounds himself with colleagues as smart or smarter than he. He recognizes that he alone does not possess all the expertise for making sound decisions. He readily consults other professionals to assist in making difficult choices. He believes in science. I can count on him to not traffic in wild unsubstantiated conspiracy theories.

Joe Biden has the calm demeanor, temperament, intelligence and intellectual curiosity to lead the country during this trying time. He is the model of health. I love his sense of humor and his ability to laugh at himself.

His frequent demonstrations of empathy and kindness are readily visible. He willingly gives to those who need a leg up or a helping hand. I feel that I can count on his honesty and straight talk from the heart. Joe is a steadfast supporter of equal rights for women and minorities. Kamala Harris was the perfect choice to be his VP.

Joe Biden treats the women in his life with consideration and utmost respect. I would be proud of my children if they grew up to be like him. He is the kind of man I would want my daughter to marry and father her children. I admire his compassion and generosity with his time in helping children who stutter as he did as a child and serving as a role model for all of us.

He is forthright in addressing the economic inequities of the Workers of America v Corporate Greed. He has shown beyond doubt his sense of fairness. Raising taxes on those who make more than $400,000 a year seems fair to me. I don’t personally know many of those people in that 1% tax bracket anyway.

Joe does not shy away from sharing his personal history of painful loss and appreciation for our medical providers. Joe believes, as I do, that medical care should not be tied to one’s current employment. In the US, we as a society have already agreed to pay for medical care for everyone in America. No one is turned away from an Emergency Room for inability to pay and that is an expensive way to pay for medical care. He has good ideas for making it less costly for all of us to cover these expenses. We all benefit from sharing the expenses of our police departments, fire departments, education, roads, government and medical care. Why not make them more efficient?

I will vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to be the next leaders of my country.
