We have an immigration mess that must be solved
To the editor:
In the Dec. 19 Breeze, there was a letter to the editor urging everyone to write to Congress demanding that ICE be reined in and all detainees be given due process under our laws.
Under the Biden Administration’s “Open Boarders” policy, millions crossed into the USA illegally. These people largely fled to Deep Blue cities like Los Angeles, Chicago and New York (to name a few) and are now being offered sanctuary by state and local government officials. Many are being given free health care, food and lodging. Who is paying for this? The U.S. taxpayer, of course.
Our laws were broken by those coming into the USA without visas, Green cards or other legal means. The vast majority don’t seem to be assimilating into the USA melting pot of society. The longer these individuals remain in the USA, the more damage to our society will occur. Some have found their way onto voter rolls. This is a violation of our election process and law.
For four years Biden and Mayorkas allowed millions to come into our country illegally. It will take Trump’s Administration at least that long to remove most. It must be done proactively and expeditiously. Blue state government officials are working at cross purposes with Trump’s Administration, denying support for the removal actions, further slowing the process.
I would like to also add that our immigration system is broken and has been broken for decades. Congress must correct the problems and develop a system that serves the needs of the USA. People wanting to come to our country must be vetted, have good personal values, have skills or resources we need, profess a desire to assimilate into our culture and should not be given free government support.
If we revert to an open borders country, the world will try to come here again and our economy will collapse. Do you want that to happen?
So, we are dealing with two issues, one short term and the other long term. We must undo the damage done by the Biden Administration and then we must put in place an immigration system that serves the needs of our great nation. Write to Congress and the President, and demand that they solve these issues.
