Make them ‘at large’ seats

To the editor:

There is talk of adding two seats to Florida’s Congressional delegation, in light of our additional (and currently unrepresented) population. Remember: a lot of people have come to Florida since the 2020 Census and there have been suggestions of a serious undercount back in 2020.

I suggest that these additional seats be “at-large,” rather than being carved out of existing districts. If these seats are added, there is some advantage making them “at-large.” Members of minority parties (e.g., mine, the Libertarian Party of Florida) can aggregate their votes and maybe have a shot at actually getting elected. Of course, the majority parties can do the same thing, too, so maybe we will wind up getting swamped anyway. In any case, the voters of Florida would be offered a full palette of choices, not just the usual suspects (e.g., just Republicans and Democrats),

Honestly, it would be much better than us LPF voters simply being “buried alive” in individual districts across the state, the way we are now. We offer a choice, not an echo. If you don’t agree with what we offer, don’t vote for us, but please take a look first.

Live free or die. Thank you.
