Civic & Community Center: Annual Town Hall Meeting is Thursday
The date to save is this Thursday, Feb. 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the NFM Recreation Center. That is the Annual Town Hall Meeting of the NFM Community Planning Panel featuring Commissioner Frank Mann as Keynote Speaker, Sharon Jenkins-Owen, Principal Lanner, Lee County, Linda Yorde, President, NFM Friends of the Library who will report on the status and future plans for the new $13 million library and many other knowledgeable speakers on a wide variety of issues affecting Our Town. Hear about the plans for new facilities at Community Park including a playground, bocce courts, outdoor pickle ball and more, as well as at the former Senior Center on Orange Grove; hopes for a public boat ramp, a NFM Cultural Center, a facelift to our front door at North Shore Park including new landscaping, some beach sand (this area was once known as “Yankee Beach”) and what can be done to clear up the cause of the frequent river pollution at that location; and the sale or use of the former Waterway Estates sewage plant, vacant for years. Learn of the Horizon Council’s NFM Commercial Corridors Revitalization Task Force and the NFM Renaissance Campaign, and how and why things are looking up here. You will hear briefly from the various civic and service groups of NFM telling you what they do and what their interests are. Hear info on the progress to select the firm to do the $50,000 NFM Marketing Study. Ask questions on any local public issue and give your input-participate in grassroots democracy! Don’t miss this one.
The NFM Community Planning Panel and Design Review Panel has a vacancy, and hopes to fill it at its next meeting on March 1. Anyone interested in being elected to these vacancies, please send a resume soon to mike-land@live.com. These volunteer groups meet jointly on the first Tuesday of each month from 6 to 9 pm at The NFM Recreation Center. Go to www.nfmcpp.com, for more info on these panels. Thanks to Lee Cummins, long-time member and Secretary, who resigned for personal reasons.
Saturday, Feb. 13, was the gateway to a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend- from 8 to 10 a.m., the North Fort Myers Civic Association sponsored a Flapjack Funfest/Fundraiser and Social at Applebee’s at Merchants Crossing. This great organization raised some money to continue doing good things for the betterment of NFM, obtained some new members and a good time was had by all! Reverend Graham Milligan performed a group Renewal of Marital Vows Ceremony and Linda Yorde did a superb job as Chair of the event.
Congratulations to Judi Roth, Richard Dunmire and John Lightbody, who were elected as Directors of the NFM Civic Association on Feb. 9.
At the next meeting, March 8 at 7 pm, elections will take place for the last vacant seat on the Board of Directors for a 3-year term and all officers for a 1-year term.
