I hope you had a very Happy New Year celebration. May 2022 be a good year and a better year for some.

December was very busy for the Civic Association.

We had numerous toy drives and we held two parades (Palmona Park and Island Vista ) to give out toys donated by our generous neighbors. I would like to thank Steve’s Place as their donations went over the top with three truck loads of toys. I also want to thank Scott Friga of Friga Tyme Construction for building the sleigh for us.

The parades were held on Saturday, Dec. 18. We gave out almost 1,000 toys. We did get a little wet as a rain came at the end of the Island Vista Parade, but the children loved seeing Santa and receiving gifts by the many walking elves he brought with him.

The Civic was also blessed with a donation of 150 Christmas trees that were given out to all who stopped by the Recreation Center on Dec. 16. I want to thank Adam Hansen for the trees and Nick Haupt for loading and bringing us the Trees.

I mentioned last month we had to cancel the Angel Tree but , with a lot of effort, we did get 67 gifts and delivered them on Dec. 22 to the residents of the Lee County Housing Authority on Pondella Road. I want to also say thank you to the Church of the Brethren for wrapping the gifts.

A family in Island Vista Park lost their home to a fire on Monday, Dec. 13. Civic gathered gifts and money for them and it was delivered on Dec. 23. The North District of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, along with Lee County Commissioner Brian Hamman, was able to secure housing after the initial stay at the Travel Lodge in North Fort Myers.

The new year will be another busy one for the Civic as on Jan. 20 at 6:30 we will hold the annual awards ceremony on the Recreation Center. The 2022 Wiffle Ball Bash will be on April 2. and then a new event — the Clash of the Irons golf tournament — will be held on May 14. Also the Recreation Center will have a Spring Fling on March 26 that Civic will be involved in. More to come later.

We have three Board Seats up for Election in February, so if you think you would be interested in joining us please check out the web site for information www.NFMCivic.com.

The next meeting will be on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at NFM Recreation Center.

Please come out and join us.

Stay safe and healthy.
