The Pulse: So many amazing accomplishments
A North Fort Myers Living magazine feature
With less than three weeks until the end of the school year, the community of North Fort Myers can be proud of the accomplishment of their students and teachers. There is no shortage of success and as your District 4 representative I am thrilled to share some of the amazing things that are happening in our schools with you.
North Fort Myers High School teachers Taylor Ashby and Kaleigh Stewart are 2022 Golden Apple winners. Taylor teaches World History and Kaleigh teaches English and we are lucky to have them. Golden Apple teachers are recognized as the best of the best Lee County has to offer. My congratulations to them both for being recognized with a Golden Apple.
If you didn’t see the high school’s performance of “Something Rotten” then you missed quite a show. The performers and crew just earned 14 Broadway Star of the Future nominations for the state of Florida. The winners were to be announced on May 6. North Fort Myers Academy of the Arts also put on an amazing performance of Frozen at the end of March, their first live musical on stage in two years.
NFMAA also has a team preparing for the Odyssey of the Mind world competition at the end of May. The middle school team, made up of sixth through eighth graders won third place at nationals to qualify. Odyssey of the Mind challenges students to work together to solve a predefined long-term problem and present their solution at competition. The school’s elementary team just missed qualifying for world’s by finishing fourth.
There are some athletic accomplishments to celebrate as well. The Ladies Track Team at North Fort Myers High School just won a District championship and the Ladies Tennis Team won their first District title since 1999. In boy’s tennis, North’s Ronald Wong won a District title in singles and in doubles with his partner Duncan Fischer. 2007 graduate Noel Devine was inaugurated into the Lee County Athletic Hall of Fame. He remains Lee County’s all-time leading rusher.
We also celebrate the life of Coach Ron Hoover. His dedication to North and his impact on the students he coached cannot be understated. His presence at Friday night football games will be missed.
I know our students are busy testing right now and preparing for the end of the year exams. Schools will be celebrating their success throughout the month, and we will honor the Class of 2022 at graduation ceremonies May 21 and 22. Congratulations to all our students for such a wonderful and successful school year.
