Column: North Fort Myers Civic Association (August)
Hello summer.
I would be safe to say that the dog days of summer are on our door step. It is certainly been a hot enough summer so far.
If you missed our July meeting, Amanda Cochran spoke to the North Fort Myers residents and gave her ideas and qualifications for the upcoming Lee County Commissioner primary race and answered questions during and after the meeting.
For our August meeting, we have incumbent Lee County Commissioner Trish Petrosky speaking and answering your questions.
This year we switched up our back-to-school drawing for shoe gift cards to uniform gift cards. Those who came to the meeting to pick up the cards were again overwhelmed over our generosity and concern for our kids to go back to school with confidence.
Our October meeting will feature Lee County Sheriff Office Detective Villa who is going to educate us on human trafficking, yes, in our neighborhood. She will also be speaking of child predators and how you can be aware of the signs especially through social media where it often begins. How to spot and help someone in trouble.
Detective Villa has been investigating these types of injustices for many years and I not only invite you to attend but I am asking you to please save this date and make it a point to attend. The meeting is Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the NFM Recreation Center.
