Athletes of the Week – 5/19/23

Alexalys Torres
Sophomore
Softball
Bishop Verot Vikings
Torres was a big contributor to the Vikings’ 14-0 win over Clearwater Central Catholic in the opening round of the 3A state tournament, knocking in three runs and going 3-for-3 with a double.
“It felt great to be able to come up big for my team, because even though we’ve had some ups and downs this season, we always find a way to fight through. My coaches and teammates have helped me through the season, and I am grateful that I’m able to pay back to them by contributing towards our team. No matter the outcome, we all have to stay loose, stay positive, play the game we love and especially have fun.”
Mia Lane
Sophomore
Softball
North Fort Myers Red Knights
Lane helped lead the Red Knights to a first-round 5A state championship tournament win over Ida Baker with a 4-RBI performance, including a bases-clearing triple.
“It felt really good, but I was so nervous. I didn’t let those nerves get to me, and I focused on the ball. I was thinking (the Ida Baker pitcher) was going to throw me a good pitch, and I was going to jump on it early and get it.”
