Voting now open for Athlete of the Month

Voting for the Cape Coral Breeze Athlete of the Month for January is now open.

We had countless top performances from student-athletes in our coverage area to start the new year and now it’s up to readers to decide who will earn top honors for the month.

Nominees for January include:

Grace Louzao, Freshman, Oasis Sharks: The freshman turend in a triple-double performance in a win against Ida Baker, scoring 13 points, collecting 10 rebounds and adding 10 steals. She’s averaging 14.4 points and 6.9 rebounds and 4.3 steals per-game through 19 games this year.

Maple Brady, Junior, Mariner Tritons: The junior went 4-0 at the Triton Tussle to improve her record to 10-4 on the year. She also was tops in her weight class at the Best in the West weightlifting meet.

Caroline Ward, Junior, Bishop Verot Vikings: The junior knocked down a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give the Vikings a win over Archbishop McCarthy. Ward is averaging 16 points-per-game this season, and most recently had a 31-point game in a Viking win.

Alessandro Gonzalez, Senior, Mariner Tritons: The senior striker helped lead the Tritons to an LCEC Championship, netting seven goals in two games, adding three assists. Gonzalez has recored 44 goals in 24 games.

Gianna Fabrizi, Junior, Bishop Verot Vikings: The junior netted four goals and added an assist in a big win over Ida Baker, and also added another goal in a 4-1 win over Naples. In the first round of the 3A-11 district tournament, Fabrizi scored a whopping five goals against Clewiston.

Hezekiah Jones, Senior, Cape Coral Seahawks: The senior helped lead the Seahwaks to a 68-63 win over Lehigh on its our court to take home the Lee County Athletic Conference Championship. Jones led the way with 18 points.

Jaelyn Hoefer, Sophomore, North Fort Myers Red Knights: The sopomore helped lead the Red Knights to a district semifinal win over Fort Myers, netting two goals and adding an assist in a 6-3 win.

Saniya Narcisse, Senior, Mariner Tritons: The senior was a two-discipline weightlifting champion in 2A-13 in both Olympic and Traditional weightlifting, with lifts of 275 lbs and 340 lbs in the respective categories.

Athlete of the Month nominees are comprised of the Breeze’s staff-selected Athletes of the Week for that respective month.
