North, Verot earn boys district basketball titles

North Fort Myers 62, Cape Coral 61: For the first time since Deion Sanders wore a Red Knights uniform, North Fort Myers has won the district boys hoops title. North (18-9) nipped the top-seeded Seahawks (23-4) at Cape Coral on Saturday, ending a championship drought going back more than 40 years.

Bishop Verot 61, Oasis 51: The Vikings (11-16) pulled the upset, grabbing both the district title and a spot in the Region 3A-3 playoffs. Dee Fletcher led a balanced Verot attack with 14 points, followed by Arrie Davis Jr. with 13, Kymani Nixon with 12 and Bryan Broomhead and Julius Calixte with10 points each. Oasis (20-7) was the district’s top seed.
